Noam Sagi
Body-centred psychotherapist, qualification received from the ‘Chiron Centre of Body Psychotherapy’, London.
What is Body-Centred Psychotherapy?
The body is similar to a mirror of thoughts and feelings. All our attitudes express themselves in the manner in which we move, hold, contract or tense, relax or expand our bodies. In every situation during our lives all external and internal circumstances are somehow memorized and stored in the body cells, thereby creating innumerable inner links.
Pleasurable thoughts and feelings bring about expansion and lightness in the physical body; repeated or chronic conflicts with others at home or work cause tightness and a sense of narrowness in the mind, as well as in the muscles and other body tissues. If this ‘narrowness’ progresses for an extended period, or becomes intolerable, the body remains in a constant state of contraction and may become unhealthy. In the early stages, disease may manifest as aches, pains, tension, fatigue, listlessness and exhaustion. If little or no attention is paid to these symptoms they may eventually develop into more severe emotional/physical disturbances, such as depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunctions, desperate loneliness and illness.
Noam’s approach is holistic. He believes that we should pay attention to the person as a whole. Only by increasing our awareness of our bodies, mind, heart and soul can we develop a deeper and truer sense of ourselves, our authenticity and sense of choice.
The treatment may at times be in direct contact with the body, for example, by using touch in different massage techniques, or by working with breathing or body sensations without physical contact. This may be performed while sitting on a chair, or lying on a massage table.
The therapeutic relationship becomes the vehicle for experience, growth and change. As a Body-Centred Psychotherapist, Noam aims at a genuine meeting in the therapeutic relationship, and believes that the healing is dependent upon the depth and quality of this relationship.
Who should receive treatment?
Some individuals come for reasons such as difficulties in relationships, feelings of low self esteem, anxiety, stress, depression, abuse issues or bereavement. Others choose psychotherapy as a means to explore a desire to be freer and more true to themselves when destructive patterns keep repeating themselves. Others come as a result of chronic physical symptoms which restrict their life experience, such as migraine, back pain, among others.
During the last few years Noam has established himself in various practices across London. In March 2008, Noam, together with cross-disciplinary fellow therapists, founded Kingyo Therapy Suites, a space that facilitates amplification of his holistic approach.
