What is Psychoanalytic / psychodynamic psychotherapy?
A non-judgmental, non standardized approach used in a wide variety of conditions in which people have emotional or relationship difficulties and is not only aimed at specific disorders.
A more in-depth insight....
This approach pays particular attention to the modalities of distress that people experience in our contemporary culture. During the analytic process the analyst works with the patient narrative in order to enlighten, under transference, the repetition engrained in the specific modalities of enjoyment that is often the source of suffering and confusion with the aim to disengage the client from the alienating effects of repetition making the resignification of past experiences possible as well as opening the path to creative individual choices.
How long does therapy last for?
- The frequency and duration of therapy varies according to clinical need and motivation to change. The wish for self-understanding, the willingness to tolerate uncertainty, and the readiness to consider another point of view, are some of the necessary ingredients.
- An assessment interview usually lasts between 30 – 40 minutes and is intended to give an experience of what psychotherapy is like and to help make a joint decision as to whether psychotherapy is desirable and, if so, what specific approach is indicated.
