"This is a highly collaborative way of working and places an emphasis on using and developing clients' existing strengths, building resilience and creating new ways of approaching life and relationships".
We all go through difficulties at some point in life and the help and support of friends and family is important. But working with a professional, experienced counsellor in a confidential setting can be invaluable. Your counsellor's psychological training and experience means that you will be guided to look at things from a different perspective. Good therapy helps you to understand yourself and others in new and healthy ways. If you are caught in a cycle of repeating the same old self-defeating patterns and behaviours -then therapy will help you to understand how this is happening and to change these difficult aspects of life.
Julia Adler has been practicing as a counsellor for almost 15 years. She has worked in agency settings, the NHS, addiction recovery programmes, child protection services and in private practice.
She has extensive experience working with:
- Family and relationship issues
- Low self esteem / confidence
- Work problems
- Addictions and co-dependency
- Depression / anxiety / stress
- Life transitions and change
- Developing personal strengths and optimism
Julia’s approach is best described as ‘integrative’ meaning that she has trained in several theoretical modalities including humanistic psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy and positive psychology. She offers a compassionate, collaborative approach to therapy.
Always keeping in mind the goals you set, the focus is on understanding your motivations, attitudes and feelings as well as your deepest held beliefs about yourself, others and the world. This allows us you to begin to challenge negative beliefs and thoughts which interfere with stable levels of well- being and happiness. A deepening understanding of yourself facilitates a more conscious and intentional approach to life and the challenges you face. As awareness increases you will find that you are able to step away from rote and conditioned behaviour and instead - choose and experiment - with healthy and more empowered ways of being.
Working with Strengths
Another key aspect to Julia’s work is that she places an equal focus on what is strong, healthy and successful in your life. By acknowledging, articulating and building on what is working well, clients are enabled and empowered, not only to solve problems and gain new perspectives, but also to achieve higher levels of hope, resilience and confidence. This way of working reduces the power and authority barrier between client and therapist by promoting the client to the level of expert in regards to what has worked, what does not work, and what might work in their situation.
The next step.
