Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy

There are times in our lives when our usual strategies and methods of coping are no longer effective and lead to problems in other areas of our life including work, relationships, goals, aspirations and personal fulfillment. This may be due to any number of changes in our life or life becoming static. Whatever issue you're grappling with, therapy can constructively support you in alleviating your symptoms and to live the life you want to lead rather than the one you may feel compelled to.

Counselling and psychotherapy are described as ‘talking therapies’ using discussion and exploration of presenting issues to gain deeper insight into what may be contributing to and sustaining a current or longstanding concern. Work can be short term, focusing on a specific concern utilising CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) as one possible technique. When issues require a greater depth of exploration, such as unhelpful thoughts, patterns that repeat themselves or negative behaviours, longer term psychotherapy can be more advantageous.

What Is Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Integrative Psychotherapy recognizes that no one psychological approach can encompass the complexity of the human condition and resultant ways of being in the world. It attends to all levels of functioning and addresses the various dimensions of life such as childhood development, family dynamics, interpersonal relationships and external influences such as social, political and cultural aspects that impact internal development. Naelah works by combining elements of Analytical Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Existential and Humanist schools of thought into one cohesive and highly effective mode of working.

What Is Involved?

The provision of a safe, neutral and confidential space creates the opportunity to explore often difficult thoughts and feelings with empathic support. Work is aimed at examining the known and unknown, unresolved aspect of self, making these part of a whole cohesive personality. Rather than advice giving, therapy involves constructive, objective feedback and interpretations aimed at facilitating deepening self understanding and insight and in the practicing of healthier behaviours and ways of managing the world. Increased self awareness and taking responsibility for the issues at hand often enhances decision making and self esteem, leading towards a life lived with vitality and spontaneity.

With over eleven years experience, Naelah has worked in private practice, the NHS, domestic violence charities, organisations and a rape and sexual abuse agency. She has vast experience of working in brief focused and long term therapy with a wide range of issues including:

Confidence difficulties, depression, workplace stress or bullying, relationship problems, traumatic events such as being attacked, a car accident, witnessing a violent incident, identity and culture, health problems, bereavement, addictions to alcohol, drugs, food and sex, managing anger and general anxieties and problems.
